Where am I?

Mon Jul 16, 2007, 6:08 PM
So, yeah, to the tens of people who occasionally visit this page, you may or may not have noticed I haven't been especially active as of late. I haven't been especially motivated to create anything, and my last photo session didn't create too much worth sharing. Not to fear, though. My recent trip to the ocean for Fourth of July produced a ton of work, and I'm sifting through it all to find some gems to put on here.

On a related note, I received my first digital camera for my birthday last month, a Nikon Coolpix L12. The good news is it'll be a lot easier to take color photographs now, as well as take pictures of my drawings that are too big to be scanned. Also, I don't have to bum my dad's camera for those kind of things. The bad news is it's a point-and-shoot type camera and not an SLR, which I wanted. I mean, obviously an SLR is better, but they're also expensive, so I don't mind. While I'd prefer the SLR's control over focus and aperture and whatnot, this is good enough for a start, and once I get the hang of all its features, I'm sure I'll enjoy it as much as my dinosaur film SLR.

By the way, I learned some disheartening news at my college two weeks ago. I went there to purchase some film and when I saw their supply was limited to a few rolls of P3200, I learned they were eliminating film photography from the curriculum and moving exclusively to digital. Kinda sucks because there's such an aesthetic quality and appeal to film processing and printing that I love. Well, welcome to the future.

Cool gallery my friend - I especially love your B/W and cross-processed pictures and the fact that you shoot in film is pretty funky. I love the opportunities digital gives you but the more I learn about photography the more I can see the appeal of film.

Anyhow, keep up the good work

Thank you very much. I'd love to get back into film photography; unfortunately, my finances prohibit that at the moment. But digital photography seems to be working well, and I'd love to get a camera like my dad's Canon Powershot. Thanks for the encouragement. :)

You're welcome :) I'd love to move into film once I feel I've got the hang of digital sufficiently but it does seem to be financially prohibitive. Digital IS awesome but it's also a bit 'soulless' and film shots in general have a special something about them...

Anyway, enough rambling :)
